A website that answers customers while you sleep
Most small business websites are a brochure. A smart website is a member of staff: it answers questions about your services, works out what the customer actually needs, and books them a call — at two in the morning if that is when they are looking.
What it does
- Answers questions from your own information. Not generic waffle — it knows your services, your prices, your opening hours and your policies, because it is set up using your content.
- Qualifies enquiries. Instead of a form that says "message sent", it asks the follow-up questions you would ask: what size is the job, when do you need it, where are you.
- Books appointments. It offers real slots from your calendar and confirms the booking, rather than telling people to ring during office hours.
- Sends you a summary. You get the conversation condensed into the facts you need, so you can pick up the phone already knowing the situation.
- Says when it does not know. It hands over to a human rather than making something up.
Why this matters more than it sounds
The most common way a small business loses work is not being beaten on price. It is not answering. Someone looks for a plumber at nine in the evening, sends three enquiries, and gives the job to whoever replies first. If your website can hold a useful conversation and book a call at the moment the customer is interested, you are competing with businesses that will reply tomorrow morning.
The same applies during the day. If you are up a ladder, on a job, or already on the phone, an assistant that captures the enquiry properly is the difference between a lead and a missed call.
Not just a chatbot. The internet is full of chat bubbles that cannot answer anything and exist to collect an email address. The useful version knows your business and completes tasks — books the appointment, takes the details, gets the enquiry to you in a form you can act on.
What we need from you to set it up
- Your services and what each one involves.
- Your pricing, or at least how you price — even "it depends, here is what it depends on" is useful.
- The questions customers ask you most often, and what you normally answer.
- Anything you want it to never do — quote a firm price, promise a date, discuss certain topics.
- Your calendar, if you want it to book directly.
Most of this comes out of one conversation. We handle the rest.
Common questions
Will it make things up?
It is set up to answer from your information and to hand over when it does not know something. We test it before it goes live, and you can review what it has been saying.
Can customers tell it is not a person?
It says so. Pretending otherwise annoys people and damages trust — being an assistant that is clearly an assistant, and clearly useful, works better.
What if I would rather people just rang me?
Then this is not for you, and that is a perfectly reasonable position. It is available on the Ruby tier and not forced on anyone.
