Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 13 September 2026. This applies to every service we provide — SplashNames, SplashHost, SplashDesign, SplashMail and SplashPhone.
The short version
Use our services lawfully, don't abuse other people or other systems with them, and don't use them in a way that puts our infrastructure or other customers at risk. Almost everyone never needs to think about this page again after reading it once.
Not permitted, under any of our services
- Hosting or transmitting illegal content, including material that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights
- Sending unsolicited bulk email ("spam"), or using SplashMail or SplashPhone to run marketing campaigns that breach applicable UK PECR or data protection requirements. Our service may impose stricter anti-spam restrictions than the minimum legal requirements
- Phishing, malware distribution, or hosting content designed to compromise other people's devices or accounts
- Attempting to gain unauthorised access to any system, ours or anyone else's — this includes unauthorised scanning, probing, or attempts to bypass authentication. Security testing requires the relevant system owner’s permission and, for our infrastructure, prior written agreement
- Running denial-of-service attacks, or deliberately facilitating attacks against others. Being the target of an attack is not itself a breach; proportionate protective restrictions may still be necessary to protect infrastructure
- Using SIP trunks, DID numbers or the call centre service for nuisance calls, robocalling without consent, or caller ID spoofing
- Cryptocurrency mining or any other activity that consumes shared server resources in a way that degrades service for other customers
- Reselling our services without a separate written agreement to do so
- Content that harasses, threatens, or incites violence against any individual or group
- Excessive or automated use of the live chat or support channels in a way intended to disrupt them
What happens if this policy is breached
In most cases we'll contact you first and give you a reasonable opportunity to fix the problem. Where something poses an immediate risk — active malware, an attack in progress, illegal content — we may suspend the affected service immediately and notify you afterwards, to protect our other customers and our infrastructure. Repeated or serious breaches may result in termination. Any charges, refunds and access to data are handled under the contract and applicable law; this policy does not exclude statutory rights. Where lawful and safe, we explain the reason and provide a route to request review by emailing [email protected].
Reporting abuse
If you believe a Splash Nodes customer is breaching this policy — sending you spam, hosting something harmful, or similar — email [email protected] with as much detail as you can (headers for email abuse, URLs for hosted content, dates and times for phone abuse). We investigate every report.
