Law Enforcement Guidelines

Last updated: 13 September 2026. How Splash Nodes responds to requests from police and other law enforcement or government authorities for information about our customers.

Our position

We assess requests individually and protect customer confidentiality. A request does not by itself compel disclosure. We verify the authority, scope and legal basis before providing information. Our usual policy is to require valid compulsory legal process; we may consider a lawful, necessary and proportionate voluntary disclosure, including in a genuine emergency. Applicable data protection conditions and any confidentiality restrictions must still be satisfied.

What we need from you

UK requests should be made under the appropriate legal power — typically a Production Order, a court order, or a request under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 made by an authority with the power to compel disclosure. Requests should:

Where to send a request

Email [email protected] with the request attached. For genuine, time-critical emergencies involving immediate risk to life, mark the subject line "EMERGENCY" and we will prioritise it when received; this email address is not an emergency-services contact or a guarantee of round-the-clock monitoring — but we still need enough information to verify the request is genuine before disclosing anything.

What we can provide

Depending on the service and what's specified in the request, this may include: account registration details, IP address logs (kept for 12 months), billing records, and — subject to applicable legal authority and any additional restrictions on communications content — the content of hosted websites or stored email, where we're technically able to access it and legally required to provide it.

Customer notification

We aim to notify affected customers where lawful and appropriate. We may delay or withhold notification where required by law or where a relevant exemption or other lawful restriction applies, including a properly assessed risk to an investigation or safety. Authorities seeking confidentiality should identify the restriction and reasons; a request for secrecy alone is not conclusive.

Data retention

Our ordinary retention practices are described in the Privacy Policy. We do not create records we do not otherwise hold simply because they have been requested. Applicable preservation or retention obligations may require particular records to be retained longer. We assess such requirements individually; data already lawfully deleted may not be recoverable.

Costs

We don't charge a fee for responding to a valid, properly-scoped legal request. Unusually broad or burdensome requests may take longer to fulfil, and we'll always tell you if that's the case rather than leaving a request unanswered.
